Bouncers Basketball Club has a very long and proud history in Townsville Basketball.  The Bouncers Basketball story is best told by Bouncers Life Member Mr Charlie Doyle.  You can read Charlie's story in the History tab of our webpage.  The club's Perpetual and Memorial Awards represent the Tiger Spirit as well as honour the club members who helped shaped our history.  The awards are a special part of our club's annual awards presentation.

  document Hannah Britton Memorial Award (50 KB)

Awarded to an Under 14 girls’ division one player who is a good all round player.

This player is someone who has great team spirit, puts in a great effort at trainings and whom the coach believes is a pleasure to coach.  Hannah Britton (27/06/1991 to 22/12/2004) played for Bouncers for several years. Hannah was a wonderful asset to the teams she played in, she always gave her best and was a great team mate. This trophy is awarded in honour of Hannah.

This trophy is awarded to a coach of a Bouncers junior team, who has positively developed the individual and team skills of the junior players under their care, in line with the ethos of our Club. This coach would have also developed a good team spirit within their team and been a positive influence on players.  Success does not need to be judged on grand final wins, but would be taken into account.

  document Len Horner Memorial Trophy (50 KB)

For the MOST VALUABLE A GRADE PLAYER (now Championship Division) - originally awarded across the Men’s or Women’s team, but in recent years awarded to the Men’s team. 

Mr Len Horner was a big supporter of Bouncers Basketball Club and the Men’s and Women’s A Grade teams. He was a lover of basketball and all sport in general. Mr Horner appreciated a good player, and good team play. Mr Horner passed away mid season in 1985, and this trophy was dedicated in his honour.  Mr Horner’s children all played for Bouncers: Colleen, Ross, Gayle and Barry. His grandchildren also play or played for Bouncers: Elliot, Keegan, Caitlin, Rohan, Alex, Aaron and Gabrielle.

document   document Nikki document Algate Memorial Trophy

Awarded to the player in the Championship Division Women’s team who shows the most TIGER SPIRIT, the one who is reliable, won’t let their team down, gives a great game week in and out, and is very supportive of team mates.

Nikki Algate came to Townsville in 1995 and played for Bouncers for 3 years whilst attending University. Nikki showed enormous Tiger Spirit. She loved the game of basketball and was a true sportsperson. It was all about playing the game, not about the money. She pumped up her team mates and was an incredibly positive influence on the team. Nikki returned to Mackay (her home town) when she finished university at the end of 1997. Nikki tragically died in a car accident in 1998 and this memorial trophy is awarded in her honour. Nikki’s No. 12 Bouncers uniform is framed and is currently displayed at the Townsville Basketball stadium.

This trophy is awarded to a coach of a Bouncers senior team, who has achieved positive results with their team in the local competition. This person would coach in line with the ethos of our Club. This coach would have also developed a good team spirit within their team and been a positive influence on players. Success does not need to be judged on grand final wins, but would be taken into account.

   document (50 KB) document Shiane Fazel Memorial Shield  

This is an encouragement award presented to an Under 8 girl who puts in a great effort. This player may not necessarily be the best skilled player, but someone who is great for the team and loves playing basketball.  Shiane Fazel (23/01/1995 to 11/09/2001), although only in her first year of basketball, showed great enthusiasm and the love of playing and being with her team. This trophy is awarded in honour of Shiane.
